Let’s face it – the internet is the central part of most people’s lives. Some say the phenomenon is damaging and dangerous, meaning that many spend more time interacting online than in the real world. But I think the internet has opened up so many possibilities and is a resource that continually enhances the way we live and organise our lives. We can keep in touch with our whole social circle very easily, find any information almost immediately and meet thousands of people in ways we wouldn’t even have imagined possible before. Here are five sweeping internet trends of 2011, all continuing to expand and enhance our existence…

Dating sites

These magical websites let people take finding love into their own hands. And there are so many now that it’s very easy to find like-minded people in your local area. There are sites for dating Liverpool men and women, dating farmers and even finding a date for your pet. This growth in the number of websites is a direct response to the popularity of the service as more and more people find long-lasting compatible relationships online.

Blogs

Blogging can be about just about anything and blogs can be set up by absolutely anyone. This is a great way of expressing and sharing creativity, news, top tips or even letting the world know what your company’s up to. Blogging continues to spread into the corporate world, and most companies now use this device to keep their followers up to date. In some ways it’s moving the stiff corporate world on to more personal and relatable terrain.

Social networking

It’s incredible the amount of people on social networking sites, and the numbers are growing every day. These allow us to share, communicate and keep up to date with both personal and global news. This is another area that keeps expanding into the corporate world, which is a very good thing, as it will mean more transparency for big corporations. Facebook is the ever-dominant site still, but Google+ looks set to make some waves – it could even be the next big phenomenon.

Games

Gaming has been revolutionised by the internet. There are so many games being played by thousands of people at a time – World of Warcraft perhaps being the biggest example. No longer do you have to wait for hours to find an opponent for your favourite game – chances are someone out there in cyberspace will be ready and waiting to play you.

Mobile apps

Mobile internet really is the new internet phenomenon. There are apps for just about everything to help you do just about anything. People are starting to ditch laptops and computers, accessing the internet from absolutely anywhere. This completely dispels the ‘internet makes you a recluse’ myth, as with a mobile you’re online and out and about simultaneously.

Whether you’re using a dating site or playing an online game, the internet really is changing the way we live in 2011 and will no doubt continue to do so.

Insomnia is a serious problem. Dealing with it fast is crucial as permitting it to get worse will lead to more serious health problems.
Drugs are not a solution as they can lead to dependency and will make the actual problem worse in the long term. Natural solutions to sleeping problems should always be sought first.
